You can tell an industry is in a period of transition when the incumbents expend more energy trying to block newcomers and stifle competition than they spend building no-bullshit solutions to real problems. Those of us with the urge to create are left with the choice of fighting the attempts of the giants to stifle and cajole, tip-toeing around them, or ignoring them and building what we believe is right.
