Alex and I just released the fourth episode of Hacker Medley, called Humans Only.
It’s about CAPTCHA and it’s our first try at integrating interviews into the podcast. It’s also our first long podcast – weighing in at a hefty 50 minutes of documentary-style goodness.
Our format is inspired most heavily by shows like Planet Money and This American Life. From Planet Money we took the style of weaving the interview clips into the narrative, and opening the show with a clip. From This American Life we took the musical transitions that break up the show into little set-pieces.
Let us know what you think!

Hey,
I liked the longer show a lot. I felt like a got a much better view of CAPTCHA over all.
About starting the show with a clip, I thought something was wrong with the mp3 I downloaded. It seemed a bit out of place. I liked it much better when you started out by saying your names and the name of the show. I think after saying that, playing a clip would be more appropriate. But thats just my $0.02
Keep up the great work! Love the show!

Encore! Encore!
Loved the clip – about the birth of the topic – at the start of the episode, and weaving interview answers in the discussion was just marvellous! I definitely would leave the (topic intro/birth) clip at start, then maybe play some music (a catchy hackers medley?;) and then name of the show and topic…
And names, definitely! I would really like to hear your names ~after the topic _and_ at the end of the episode. So that if we ever meet in real-life, i can better remember your names (and this awesome podcast) to buy you both a “beer” (>’_')>#
So yeah, keep up the fantastic show! Your (hundreds of) invested hours are not wasted, but greatly appreciated, enjoyed and assimilated by our curious hacker side of brain d(^_^)b
ps. The “joke” clip at the very end was lovely, it’s always nice to end with a smile

Very cool. Love the format of this one. Do go on (creating more shows, I mean). I’m enjoying them a great deal. The only nitpick I have is that the voices of the two of you are too alike (at last to my non-native English speaker ear) so I have trouble figuring out who of the two of you is talking at any given moment. Perhaps one of you could inhale some helium before the show?
. I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it by show #36, at the latest, though. I guess if you wanted to be really anal about it you could say that sometimes your dialogues feel a bit rehearsed, I’m not sure that acting out the dialogues works well. Maybe with practice? On the other hand I listened to all episodes in a row so I’m probably thinking of an earlier one so don’t mind that too much.
